Care, services or supplies related to the health of an individual is what we call healthcare. Healthcare includes but is not limited to: preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative, maintenance, or palliative care and counseling services, assessment or procedures with respect to the physical or mental condition or functional status of an individual, or that affects the structure or function of the body.
Wellness is a healthy state of wellbeing, free from disease. In our society often times, “healthcare” refers to the heroic efforts we see in the media and on television to save a person’s life using drugs or dramatic surgery. But true health involves what we do on a regular basis to stay healthy. True health is a state in which your body works as it was designed.
There are several things you can do to increase your chances for staying healthy:
-Don’t smoke or use tobacco
Using tobacco is one of the most dangerous things you can do. One out of every 6 deaths in the United States can be blamed on smoking. More preventable illnesses are caused by tobacco than by anything else.
-Limit how much alcohol you drink
Too much alcohol can damage the liver and contribute to some cancers, such as throat and liver cancer. Alcohol also contributes to deaths from car wrecks, murders and suicides.
-Eat right
Heart disease, some cancers, strokes, diabetes and damage to your arteries can be linked to what you eat. A proper diet can give the body the optimum fuel it needs to stay healthy
-Lose weight if you are overweight
Many Americans are overweight. Carrying too much weight increases your risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, some cancers, gallbladder disease and arthritis in the weight-bearing joints (like the spine, hips or knees). A high-fiber, low-fat diet and regular exercise can help you lose weight gradually and help you keep it off.
-Exercise regularly
Exercise can help prevent heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, depression and, possibly, colon cancer, stroke and back injury. You’ll also feel better and keep your weight under control if you exercise regularly. Try to exercise for 30 to 60 minutes, 4 to 6 times a week, but any amount is better than none.
-Get adequate rest
Make sure you get at least six to eight hours of sleep a night, depending on the amount your body requires. If you’re not sleeping well, your immune system produces fewer white blood cells which are needed in fighting off infections.
-Get regular chiropractic care
Keeping your nervous system in top condition helps keep other systems and organs of your body working at their best. Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy and to help remove interferences that prevent you from your natural state.
The most common conditions seen by chiropractors are: back pain and stiffness, neck pain and stiffness, shoulder and arm pain, hip and leg pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, and poor posture.
People seek the help of a chiropractor for many different reasons including pain relief, mobility, flexibility, performance enhancement and healthcare.
Pain is the body’s warning system, but it’s not foolproof. Judging your health by how you feel can be dangerous. Many conditions and diseases are well advanced by the time you are aware of them.
Chiropractors correct spinal malpostions called vertebral subluxations, which may cause pain at times and at other times be completely painless. The harmful effects of vertebral subluxations are the result of irritation and interference to the nervous system. The nervous system controls and coordinates all body parts and its optimum function is essential for good health.
Pain relief and rapid recovery from a vast array of diseases and disorders have placed chiropractic as a leader in natural healthcare. Many of these results have been confirmed by scientific research. Many athletes use chiropractic care as a means of enhancing their performance.
Parents and teachers often report children dramatically improve their attention span with chiropractic care. Others report chiropractic care as being the main reason for improved academic performance. Dancers and artists are more graceful and creative when they are in balance and free of nerve interference caused by subluxations.
